Maintaining Web Alignment

In this hour-long seminar, Ken Hopcus provided insight for assuring proper alignment of a moving web by focusing on key aspects of web guiding. He addressed the considerations of various guide-types, location options and provide guidelines to properly set up each type of guide. Plant Supervisors and Engineers will learn selection techniques to extend the life of a guiding system, and how to troubleshoot common guiding/alignment issues.  


Ken discussed specific variables that affect the lateral position of a moving web, including: 
  • Variations in caliper of web material
  • Roller alignment
  • Existing conditions in the parent roll (i.e. telescoping)
  • Tension (especially on ramp-up and ramp-down and at splices)
  • Bearing condition
